We joined our Chef friend Edorta for a journey into the small town of Ordizia located 40 minutes south of San Sebastian. He introduced us to another famous young Basque Chef, Roberto Ruiz, owner of the restaurant El Fronton of Tolosa. His cuisine is inspired by local produce and offers platters prepared with fruits and vegetables of the season. We had the pleasure to discover the Ordizia Market with both of them and, of course, with our video camera.
Public markets are very important in the Basque Country. Ordizia’s market is particularly important because it is here that prices are established for fruit and vegetables sold in other Gipuzkoa province markets. Our day ended in El Fronton’s kitchen where Roberto gladly showcased how he prepares his menu from freshly bought produce. As you can see, we enjoy the best of what the Basque Country has to offer and we are seeking to discover even more.
